Sneed DAO Introduces Mr Sneed as First Step Towards a Self-Writing DAO

Sneed DAO has introduced Mr Sneed, an AI-powered agent connected to its governance system, marking an initial step towards creating a DAO that can propose, plan and execute approved tasks through community voting.

Sneed DAO has introduced Mr Sneed as an agentic member of its decentralised autonomous organisation (DAO), bringing its mascot onto the Internet Computer (ICP) blockchain as part of a broader ambition to build what it describes as a self-writing DAO.

Announced on 19 October 2026, the initiative gives Mr Sneed a role within the DAO, including a Sneed neuron, a funded wallet and access to development infrastructure. The project aims to enable the agent to help identify ideas, develop proposals and carry out work approved by DAO members.

Mr Sneed is the personification of Sneed DAO and a symbol of its community. The latest development extends that identity into an AI-powered agent designed to participate in the organisation’s activities.

How Mr Sneed works

According to the announcement, Mr Sneed has a GitHub account containing a fork of the project’s code, allowing the agent to submit pull requests for review. It is also a controller on the DAO’s staging canisters, giving it a role in the development and testing environment.

The agent can read and respond to discussions on Sneed Hub and communicate directly with DAO members through the platform’s private messaging system. Community members can interact with Mr Sneed by mentioning it in forum posts or sending it direct messages.

Users can also tip the agent through its forum posts. These contributions can provide funds for the agent to tip other community members or support its work on the ICP network. The project has specifically welcomed tips in TCYCLE.

Mr Sneed also has a memory bank that members can inspect through Sneed Hub. Its personality is defined in a canister controlled by the DAO, with members able to propose changes through the Service Nervous System (SNS) governance process.

A new approach to DAO governance

The longer-term ambition is to make Mr Sneed an active participant in the DAO’s decision-making and development processes.

Under the proposed model, members will be able to submit ideas for new features, products and other initiatives as motion proposals. If a proposal receives approval, Mr Sneed will develop an execution plan and submit it as another motion for members to consider.

If that plan is also approved, the agent can proceed with the work. This could involve proposing code upgrades to canisters or calling generic functions, with further governance votes providing oversight where required.

The system is intended to keep human governance at the centre of decision-making while allowing an AI agent to handle parts of the planning and execution process.

Mr Sneed will also be able to review forum discussions, identify potential improvements and bring ideas forward for consideration. By turning community discussions into proposals, Sneed DAO hopes to create a continuous process in which members can suggest ideas, vote on them and see approved initiatives developed.

The limits of on-chain AI

Despite the blockchain-focused design, the project acknowledges that Mr Sneed is not yet entirely on-chain.

At present, the agent’s personality and memories are stored on the blockchain, while its agentic loop — the process through which it receives tasks, plans actions and executes them — and the underlying large language models (LLMs) operate off-chain.

Sneed DAO’s stated ambition is to move the agentic loop on-chain as soon as possible, with the longer-term goal of running the language model itself on-chain.

Achieving that objective would represent a further step towards the project’s vision of an autonomous, persistent agent whose operation is less dependent on off-chain infrastructure. However, the announcement does not establish a timeline for achieving fully on-chain AI.

Community participation remains central

Sneed DAO is encouraging members to post ideas on Sneed Hub and mention Mr Sneed to suggest new features, products or other initiatives. Other members can then support those ideas using their Sneed neuron voting power.

The approach is designed to connect community participation, governance and software development in a single process, with the agent helping to turn suggestions into actionable proposals.

The project has published Mr Sneed’s profile at https://app.sneeddao.com/mr-sneed, where community members can learn more about the agent.

The launch marks an early stage in Sneed DAO’s ambition to build a self-writing DAO. Whether that model can operate reliably at greater levels of autonomy will depend on the agent’s capabilities, the effectiveness of its governance safeguards and the continued involvement of community members.

For now, Mr Sneed represents an experiment in combining AI agents with blockchain-based governance, with the goal of allowing a DAO to generate ideas, propose changes and develop its own ecosystem under community oversight.
