Cload Expands On-Chain Storage Across ICP Subnets

Cload has expanded its infrastructure with the deployment of more than 40 storage nodes across multiple Internet Computer (ICP) subnets. The move pushes its total storage capacity past 20 terabytes, with all data stored fully on-chain. The company says this marks progress toward decentralised file storage that doesn’t rely on external cloud providers or centralised management.

According to Cload, its updated architecture now supports load balancing and distributed storage, allowing data to be handled across a wider network of nodes. The setup is designed to improve performance while reducing bottlenecks and single points of failure. Users uploading content to the system can now benefit from better speed, redundancy, and availability.

Unlike traditional cloud services, where metadata or files are often stored off-chain or require trust in a central operator, Cload maintains that all user data is verifiably stored on-chain. This structure allows for immutability and tamper resistance, with storage nodes working across multiple subnets in sync.

Cload’s update comes amid broader interest in decentralised storage solutions, where independence from major tech platforms is seen as both a technical and political advantage. Still, concerns remain in the wider Web3 ecosystem over scalability and user adoption. Storage-heavy decentralised systems often face challenges in matching the speed and convenience of legacy platforms.

The company has said it will continue to scale the system, adding capacity in response to demand. It is also expected to refine its user interface and developer tooling to encourage adoption.

As Web3 infrastructure continues to mature, decentralised storage providers like Cload are attempting to offer alternatives to dominant cloud services. Whether the market shifts in that direction at scale will depend on both technical reliability and user experience. For now, Cload is betting that fully on-chain architecture is what will set it apart.
