DFINITY switches from BambooHR to Open HR amid security concerns

DFINITY, the organisation behind the Internet Computer blockchain, has switched from human resources platform BambooHR to Open HR, according to founder Dominic Williams, who announced the move in a post on X.

Williams said the change took place three weeks ago, before BambooHR announced a temporary service disruption linked to the PHP2Shell security vulnerability.

BambooHR’s notice said its engineering and security teams were monitoring the situation and taking steps to address the vulnerability. The company also warned that it could temporarily take its service offline if further protective action was needed to safeguard customer data.

Williams described Open HR as part of the Open SaaS suite, a collection of free, AI-enabled software designed to run on Internet Computer cloud infrastructure. He said the platform was being developed as an enterprise software option, with general availability expected alongside a planned cloud engine unlock. He did not provide a launch date.

In his post, Williams described Open HR as “tamperproof” and “unstoppable”, highlighting its planned use of artificial intelligence and its connection to the Internet Computer ecosystem. These are claims made by Williams, and further information about the platform’s security architecture and independent testing has not yet been provided.

The timing of the announcement places DFINITY’s switch against the backdrop of BambooHR’s response to the vulnerability. However, Williams did not say that the move was prompted by the incident, and his post indicates that DFINITY had changed platforms several weeks earlier.

The announcement also reflects DFINITY’s broader effort to encourage the use of software built to run on Internet Computer infrastructure. Open HR’s wider availability, technical details and security assurances are yet to be confirmed.
