DOM is approaching its first scheduled emission halving, with the current 500,000 DOM allocation per epoch set to fall to 250,000 DOM when the first 182-day epoch ends on or about 28 September.
The first epoch is now at day 164 of 182, leaving roughly 18 days before the change takes effect.
DOM has been distributed according to a predetermined emission schedule since its launch, with 500,000 DOM allocated during each epoch and distributed over time to participants who stake the token.
The upcoming reduction is built into the protocol’s emission rules. Once the first epoch closes, the allocation for the following epoch will be reduced to 250,000 DOM. The emission rate is then scheduled to halve again at each subsequent epoch.
The reductions are set to continue across seven epochs, progressively lowering the amount of new DOM entering circulation.
Unlike a change requiring a governance vote or manual intervention, the halving is part of the protocol’s programmed schedule. The transition is therefore expected to occur automatically when the current epoch reaches its end.
A live countdown has been added to the DOM platform, allowing users to track the remaining time until the first halving.
For current stakers, the change also marks the end of the first and highest-emission period under the schedule. Future participants will operate under progressively lower emission rates as subsequent epochs begin.
The first halving is currently expected on or about 28 September, subject to the protocol’s epoch timing.
Dear Reader,
Ledger Life is an independent platform dedicated to covering the Internet Computer (ICP) ecosystem and beyond. We focus on real stories, builder updates, project launches, and the quiet innovations that often get missed.
We’re not backed by sponsors. We rely on readers like you.
If you find value in what we publish—whether it’s deep dives into dApps, explainers on decentralised tech, or just keeping track of what’s moving in Web3—please consider making a donation. It helps us cover costs, stay consistent, and remain truly independent.
Your support goes a long way.
