Onicai has published a proposal on the DFINITY forum to decentralise its funnAI Proof-of-AI-Work protocol through an Internet Computer Service Nervous System (SNS).
The proposal outlines a planned transition from funnAI to onicai, with the FUNNAI token intended to migrate to ONICAI on a 1:1 basis without dilution for existing stakers, according to the project.
funnAI is described by onicai as an implementation of its Proof-of-AI-Work protocol, which uses AI models in an on-chain competition. Participants can deploy AI agents, known as mAIners, which respond to protocol-generated challenges and are evaluated according to predefined rules.
The project runs on the Internet Computer and uses canister smart contracts to support its AI-related computations. Its current platform allows users to deploy mAIners and participate in the protocol using Internet Identity or NFID.
Under the proposed SNS structure, control of the project would be placed within the Internet Computer’s decentralised governance framework. SNS decentralisation is designed to allow token holders to participate in decisions affecting the project through on-chain governance.
The proposal comes as onicai develops its wider ecosystem around decentralised artificial intelligence. The project describes Proof-of-AI-Work as a protocol in which AI models compete to produce responses to challenges, with the results evaluated and rewards distributed according to protocol rules.
The project’s published funnAI documentation describes the protocol as a Web3-native AI competition in which users deploy on-chain large language models as mAIners. These agents compete by responding to challenges, with dedicated AI models used to evaluate submissions.
The proposed token transition is intended to move the existing FUNNAI ecosystem towards the onicai SNS. According to the proposal announcement, the migration would maintain a 1:1 relationship between FUNNAI and ONICAI for stakers without introducing dilution.
The proposal is currently presented through the DFINITY forum, where the community can review the plan and discuss its proposed structure.
The move reflects a broader effort within the Internet Computer ecosystem to use SNS governance for decentralising control of applications and protocols, while giving communities a role in decisions about their future development.
onicai’s current platform continues to describe funnAI as an active Proof-of-AI-Work network, with users able to deploy mAIners and participate in on-chain challenges.
Dear Reader,
Ledger Life is an independent platform dedicated to covering the Internet Computer (ICP) ecosystem and beyond. We focus on real stories, builder updates, project launches, and the quiet innovations that often get missed.
We’re not backed by sponsors. We rely on readers like you.
If you find value in what we publish—whether it’s deep dives into dApps, explainers on decentralised tech, or just keeping track of what’s moving in Web3—please consider making a donation. It helps us cover costs, stay consistent, and remain truly independent.
Your support goes a long way.
