Bitcoin DeFi Gains Momentum on Internet Computer as Developers Rally Behind New Hub

Bitcoin DeFi is attracting fresh interest, with the Internet Computer emerging as a notable platform for development. The DFINITY team has launched bitcoindefi.dev, a dedicated hub aimed at guiding developers through the process of building Bitcoin applications on the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP). The site offers practical tools such as code samples, video tutorials, and detailed documentation to make it easier for developers to create Bitcoin DeFi apps using ICP’s native features rather than relying on bridges or oracles.

The Internet Computer’s approach is rooted in its Chain Fusion technology, which allows smart contracts—known as canisters—to interact directly with the Bitcoin network through cryptographic methods like threshold Schnorr and ECDSA. This enables canisters to send transactions, query unspent UTXOs, and check balances in a way that bypasses third-party intermediaries.

Several projects are already making use of this capability. Platforms are emerging that offer lending and oracle services tailored to Bitcoin DeFi, while others are building infrastructure to provide real-time Bitcoin data directly to canisters. These developments aim to improve speed, security, and reliability for applications in the space.

Although ICP’s token price has seen fluctuations, the creation of bitcoindefi.dev and ongoing technical progress suggest a growing ecosystem. For developers, the combination of resources, native integration, and active project activity presents a clear opportunity to explore Bitcoin-native DeFi on ICP.

Dear Reader,

Ledger Life is an independent platform dedicated to covering the Internet Computer (ICP) ecosystem and beyond. We focus on real stories, builder updates, project launches, and the quiet innovations that often get missed.

We’re not backed by sponsors. We rely on readers like you.

If you find value in what we publish—whether it’s deep dives into dApps, explainers on decentralised tech, or just keeping track of what’s moving in Web3—please consider making a donation. It helps us cover costs, stay consistent, and remain truly independent.

Your support goes a long way.
